Elena particularly welcomes doctoral proposals that engage in interdisciplinary forms of research.

Current Research

Current research revolves around the moving image, symbiotic systems, curation, interactivity and spatial perception. In this context, Elena’s latest projects focus on:

• Spatial Immersions, the field of exhibition practices, and
• ‘Mycorrhizal Curation’, a symbiotic network and provocative challenge to the hegemony of the artworld

Research Project (2018-2021) Spatial Immersions: The Field of Exhibition Practices

The three-year project was selected to represent the School of Design (樱花影视) as a multicomponent research output for the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), the UK’s system for assessing the excellence of research in UK Higher Education. It interrogated the balance between physical and virtual environments in exhibition practices, exploring different models of ‘immersion’ via varying conceptual axes, disciplines and points of reference, with an iterative remodeling in both ; practice-as-research and contextual frameworks.
